Welcome to Benchill Medical Practice

Benchill_External The practice is a Group Practice based in an excellent modern health facility (with disabled access) offering a broad range of services. There are currently 6 doctors working within the practice, four partners and two employed doctors. Four of the doctors are female and two are male.

In addition to the doctors, the practice also employs two practice nurses and a healthcare assistant as well as recently becoming a GP training practice.

It is our belief that a great deal of the workload within the practice can be shared with the nurses. The nurses run a variety of clinics and these are constantly reviewed for their effectiveness. We positively encourage our patients to engage with the practice nurses for advice on Diabetes, Asthma/COPD, Heart Disease, Blood Pressure, Contraception, Vaccinations and Cervical Smears. Our nurses are considered to be experts and have a keen interest in keeping our patients well.

Easter Opening Times

CHANGES TO FORUM HEALTH WALK-IN CENTRE The walk-in centre based at Forum Health is moving to University Hospital of South Manchester (Wythenshawe). The walk-in centre will continue to operate as normal until 4pm Thursday 31st January... 201......3 and will reopen as part of a new integrated A&E service at University Hospital of South Manchester (Wythenshawe) at 8am Friday 1st February 2013. The new service at University Hospital of South Manchester will have access to senior doctors, tests and x-rays that were not available at Forum Health. Only the walk-in service for minor illnesses and injuries is moving. The rest of our planned care services will stay at Forum Health where they are now and you can still call 0161 435 3694 or ask at reception to book an appointment for these services. The pharmacy, GP practices and other health services that operate at Forum Health will not be affected.

Whooping Cough (Pertussis) Vaccination for Pregnant Women

ATTENTION: All Pregnant Ladies

You may have heard recently about the new vaccination programme being recommended for women who are between the stages of 28 - 38 weeks in their pregnancy. We are now offering this service to our patients and would urge you to make an appointment with one of our Practice Nurses. If you would like further advice about this vaccination, you can speak to your midwife or alternatively you can visit:

FLU Vaccinations

We have now taken delivery of our first supply of flu vaccinations for this season. All patient over the age of 65 are entitled to an NHS FREE Flu vaccination.

Patients under the age of 65 who have been diagnosed with any of the following conditions:

Diabetes, Lung Disease, Heart Disease, Stroke/Tia,

Renal Problems

are also entitled to a FREE Flu Vaccination. Pregnant women are also advised to have a flu vaccination.

Flu Clinics will be held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon throughout November 1pm to 2pm. NO APPOINTMENT IS NECESSARY FOR THESE CLINICS

PLEASE NOTE: Flu vaccinations will only be given to those patients who meet the criteria for a FREE vaccination.

Changes in Staff

On the 2nd October we will be welcoming Dr J Davies. Dr Davies will be working as a part time GP and we hope that many of our patients will make her their regular GP of choice.

When the Practice is Closed
The practice is closed between 6.30pm and 8.00am weekdays and all day weekends and bank holidays. If you have an urgent medical problem that cannot wait until the surgery re-opens you should contact the practice in the usual way where you will be given an alternative number to ring for our out of hours service which is currently provided by Go To Doc.

Appointments
Patients may book a routine appointment with any of the doctors in the practice by telephoning 0161 493 9101 or by calling in to the surgery. Appointments are normally available up to 14 days in advance. If your doctor of choice has no free appointments within 48 hours, you will be offered an appointment with another doctor in the practice.

Cancelling your Appointment
If you are unable to attend an appointment with one of the doctors or nurses, please telephone or use the link at the bottom of this page to cancel your appointment. (This option is not currently available on line)

Test Results
If you wish to telephone the surgery for test results please ring after 1.00pm. You should allow 3 to 5 days for the results to reach the practice (some test results may take longer) if any urgent treatment or follow-up is needed the practice will contact you. Enquiries about test results ordered by the hospital should be directed to the hospital not the practice.
